Save Money With Delicious Homemade Sourdough Bread

I am in love with sourdough bread.

It is healthy, economical and delicious. Homemade sourdough is nutritious because it only uses a handful of ingredients and the leavening process assists with digestion. Using freshly ground flour makes it even more healthful. For more information on the nutritional benefits of sourdough watch the video below or read Facts About Naturally Leveaned Bread.

Homemade sourdough is economical because it doesn't require the purchase of yeast, lecithin, or gluten as some yeast recipes call for. You only need flour, salt, water, honey (or sugar,) oil and sourdough starter! Talk about cheap! Buying your ingredients in bulk renders your bread even more economical.

Search for a source where you can purchase 50 lb. bags of ground flour, or wheat berries that you can grind yourself. I can buy white and ground wheat flour in the next town over from an Amish store. I can also purchase 50 lb ground white flour and hard winter white or hard winter red wheat berries from my church cannery. You can contact members of the Church of Jesus Christ to purchase such items and many more (like sugar, rolled oats, beans.)

In addition to purchasing these items in bulk from the church cannery, you may also use the church's dry pack canning equipment at no charge and with no strings attached. This allows you to buy items in bulk and store what you won't consume right away.

In addition to having a healthy, economical and delicious food for your family, you will also minimize your impact on the environment by eliminating waste from plastic bags and fossil fuels that are used in transporting store bought bread.
